Overview

The A-BHC is a licensed clinical psychologist or LMHC or LCSW who adheres to the highest standards of evidence-based medical practice, ethics, and professionalism at all times.  The A-BHC provides direct behavioral health integration and behavioral health treatment to children, adolescents, adults and families in order to improve psychosocial function in a primary care setting.  The A-BHC also provides addiction and dual diagnosis treatment in the same primary care setting.

Responsibilities

Addiction Specific Functions:

  • Complete all functions listed in essential functions below with a focus on substance use disorders and dual diagnosis.
  • Provide treatment by evidence based therapeutic interventions in a substance use disorders clinic setting.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of behavioral health clients.
  • Provide effective treatment planning and assisting clients in successfully achieving goals.
  • Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.
  • actively participate in meetings that support C.L. Brumback/Health Care District integrated health care model to provide comprehensive care for clients.
  • Assist in the detection of “at risk” patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
  • Assist the primary care team in developing care management processes such as the use of guidelines, disease management techniques, case management, and patient education to improve self-management of medical and psychiatric chronic disease.
  • Provide assessment, diagnosis according to DSM-V consultation, and brief intervention for psychological/psychiatric problems and/or disorders.
  • Teach patients, families, and staff care, prevention, and treatment enhancement techniques.
  • Monitor the site’s behavioral health program, identifying problems related to patient services and making recommendations for improvement while complying with all accrediting bodies applicable (DCF, state, federal regulations as well as standard of care).
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education:  Master’s degree or doctorate in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related field required.

Experience:  Three (3) years’ professional experience in treating alcohol and substance abuse in a health care setting required.

Certification:

  • Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) preferred. 
  • Basic Life Support certification required

Licensure:

  • Current and valid State of Florida License in Mental Health Counseling or Licensed Clinical Social Worker license required or a license in clinical psychology.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s license required.
