This Psychiatrist is a licensed physician who adheres to the highest standards of evidence based medical practice, ethics, and professionalism at all times.

 

This position provides psychiatric services in an outpatient setting, consisting of diagnosis, treatment and referrals as appropriate. Duties of this position are to understand HCD Primary Care Clinics protocols and procedures and to ensure quality of care for all patients.

 

The Pediatric psychiatrist is mental health provider who adheres to the highest standards of evidence-based medical practice, ethics, and professionalism at all times. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in providing psychiatric services to children and adolescents and families, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. They should have a deep understanding of child development, childhood disorders, and family systems. The Child Psychiatrist will work closely with other healthcare professionals and educators to provide comprehensive psychiatric services to children and their families, helping children to manage mental and emotional health issues, navigate social and behavioral problems, and promote overall mental well-being.  Pediatric psychiatrist will serve as a consultant to pediatricians about psychiatric care and serve as an expert in the pediatric behavioral health department.

Responsibilities

Provide behavioral health services within the scope and practice as defined by the Florida Board of Medicine.

Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate an effective and efficient treatment program that will appropriately meet the needs of patients utilizing best care practices, industry standards, organizational guidelines, appropriate accreditation standards, and applicable federal laws, including HIPAA

Obtain comprehensive health histories, request special diagnostic and laboratory tests, interpret test results, and develop comprehensive psychiatric treatment plans

Provide mental health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans in identified areas; provide medication management for patients; and maintain appropriate health records

Prescribe pharmaceutical therapy consistent with medical evaluation, treatment plan and current standards of practice

Refer clients for more specialized or inpatient interventions as clinical situations dictate

The ability to triage and prioritize emergency appointments and walk ins within a structured schedule while communicating with the team as to how to get all patients assessed.

Have the ability to triage basic medical problems and refer appropriately.

Have the capability of taking care of basic psychiatric problems while referring appropriately.

Participate in a team management approach to patient care/treatment.

Identify at risk patients appropriately in crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.

Can perform mental status examinations and appropriate physical exams.

Maintain appropriate files; develop and follow through on treatment plans within organizational guidelines; and prepare reports on the clinical management of patients

Maintain quality care through participation in peer review, policy development and quality improvement programs

Maintain appropriate documentation of clinical services, including all necessary billing information

Ensure accurate and consistent use of encounter forms for all client contacts with behavioral health providers to ensure accurate billing of third party resources

Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops and serving on special committees

Participates in the patients’ plan of care, interdisciplinary team meetings, committee meetings and rehabilitation meetings when necessary.

Discusses findings as needed with attending physician, consulting staff, and medical service providers. 

Be willing to assist in consulting leadership on best practice in pediatric psychiatry

Be willing to cross cover in adult programs

Assist the primary care team in developing care management processes such as the use of guidelines, disease management techniques, case management, and patient education to improve self-management of medical and psychiatric chronic disease.

 

Assist in running treatment team meetings for pediatric behavioral health to have clinical case discussion

Qualifications

Successful completion of college or university

Successful completion of M.D or D.O

Experience: 

Three (3) to five (5) years previous experience related to the above describe duties. Previous experience assessing and providing medication management for patients with behavioral health disorders in a psychiatric or primary care setting. Experience with children, adolescents, and adults necessary.

Working knowledge and experience assessing and treating adults/adolescents with alcohol and other drug abuse/dependence

Expert clinical judgment and the ability to be self-directed and demonstrate initiative in an expanded role

Certification:

Board certified in psychiatry by ABPN

Board certified in child psychiatry by AACAP

 

Licensure:

Must be licensed as a Physician through the florida board of medicine

 

Must have DEA.
