  • Overview

    The clinician in this position is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and providing Pediatric Behavioral Health services at the C.L. Brumback Primary Care Clinics. This position is also responsible for identification, assessment and referral, and treatment of patient’s mental health well-being. The work involves screening primary care clinic patients for mental illness, in collaboration with other medical staff through medical and behavioral health integration.



    Conducts mental health services in primary care clinic settings to pediatric clients by performing clinical and bio-psychosocial assessments for mental illness, substance use, co-occurring disorders, domestic violence, trauma and/or abuse and homelessness. Treatment of behavioral issues associated with chronic diseases to reduce the effects of both and support better outcomes

    Based on medical provider referrals, conducts brief screenings to evaluate the needs of the patient by direct interview and clinical assessment (Warm Hand-off).

    Utilizes evidence based screening tools such as the PHQ-2 and PHQ-9 to capture depression.

    Provides weekly individual and group therapy as needed.

    Coordinate care for behavioral health needs – refers patients to community mental health resources and/or specialists as needed; serves as a behavioral health coordinator by making and following up on patient appointments and psychiatric evaluations and reports.

    Develops and implements treatment plans with patients to clarify goals and objectives’ during treatment. Understands mechanism by which Adverse Child Experiences (ACE) influence health and well-being throughout the lifespan and utilized Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to address behavioral, physical and mental health issues.

    Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed in order to comply with changes in patients' status.

    Monitor patients’ use of medications and works closely with medical clinic teams on medication and treatment compliance plans.

    Acts as a patient advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency issues in crisis situations.

    Provides short-term treatment to patients such as brief focused, problem-solving and patient centered treatment. Individual therapy and support groups to educate patient on mental illness and its effects on their primary health well-being.

    Maintains confidentiality of EHR records relating to clients' treatment as per HIPPA laws.

    Establish and maintain a current listing of community resources to meet the needs of the target population. Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with community providers in order to perform case management services as needed.

    Submit quarterly reports of Peer Review. Participates in bi-weekly peer supervision and monthly provider meetings.

    Conduct patient satisfaction surveys with all patient receiving behavioral health services under the program.

    Participate in program model development and evaluation and compiles data as required.

    Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural. Additionally, incumbents are required to perform emergency response and management duties for Palm Beach County as required.




    Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or related field required.




    Three (3) years’ professional mental health experience in a health care setting required. Must have experience working with pediatric population

    Ability to speak Spanish is highly recommended




    Basic Life Support certification required.




    Current and valid State of Florida License in Mental Health Counseling or Licensed Clinical Social Worker license required.


    Valid Florida Driver’s license required.
