  • Overview

    The Risk Manager works in partnership with administrative and medical staff leadership to provide guidance and direction in the development of a culture of safety and risk mitigation, along with identifying opportunities and strategies for performance improvement. This position collaborates with senior leadership on risk management strategic planning, goal setting, department evaluations, and the implementation of strategic initiatives. The Risk Manger also partners with leadership and staff to develop a Just Culture of safety, risk prevention and mitigation.

    Responsibilities

    Initiates and oversees the development of a comprehensive risk management and safety program inclusive of the analysis and trending of data related to initiatives.

    Provides strategic oversight of risk management committees with accountability for distribution of organizational communication vertically and horizontally within assigned program areas and vertically with the Health Care District as appropriate.

    Provides strategic oversight of proactive and reactive adverse events including root cause analyses, and failure mode effects analyses in regards to the facilitation process, planning, implementation, and evaluation of effectiveness of process changes. Facilitates the reporting, investigation, analysis and corrective action planning on medical errors and near misses.

    Maintains knowledge of state and federal regulations. Identifies areas of vulnerability and directs the development of strategies to enhance compliance.

    Prepares and submits reports as required by Florida law.

    In conjunction with clinical staff and medical staff directs and coordinates risk and safety initiatives.

    Manages the production, analysis, and presentation of relevant safety/risk data and activities to leadership, key individuals, committees, and leaders and provides guidance on opportunities for improvement.

    Continuously prioritizes organizational risk management needs based upon assessment and reassessment of findings/data or populations served.

    Proactively educates leadership, clinicians, and staff regarding the basic of risk management and their role in ensuring that patients are not harmed during care delivery.

     

    Provides Risk Management education for new employee orientation and for staff annual competencies.

     

    In collaboration with clinical staff and service managers, participates in the monitoring, reporting, and improvement activities related to clinical care, safety and risk initiatives.

     

    Shares Risk Management data and collaborates with appropriate departments and staff regarding the risk management assessments, plans, and monitoring. Prepares and submits reports as required by regulatory, federal and Florida law.

     

    Prepares, submits, and presents Risk Management summary reports as assigned and promotes maximum confidentiality by limiting access to such information.

     

    Reviews and revises risk management plan annually and submits plans to the Director of Corporate Risk Management for approval on an annual basis.

     

    Assists in the preparation of and coordination with the capital and operational budgets. Reviews with assigned department managers monthly budget variances; assembles data relative to the phases of hospital activities and provides financial/statistical feedback to the Administrator on a monthly basis.

     

    Seeks consultation from the Director of Corporate Risk regarding various aspects of risk, adverse incidents, and risk prevention.

     

    Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent including but not limited to: working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, performing other emergency duties responding to threats or disasters, man-made or natural as required.

    Qualifications

    Education: 

    Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing required.

    Experience: 

    Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience at the Registered Nurse level; two of which is preferred in a risk management capacity.

    Certification:

    Basic Life Support certification required. Cardiac Life Support Certification preferred. Risk Manager Certification preferred.

    Licensure:

    State of Florida, Registered Nurse license required.

    Licensed Risk Manager in the State of Florida within one year of hire date.
