    This position collects, transports, washes, folds, and distributes clothing and linens for the purpose of providing a safe and hazard-free environment for the Health Care District.  This position receives, sorts, washes, and distributes clothing and linen items received.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:

    Collects clothing and linens from rooms and transports to wash area.

    Sorts clothing and linen appropriately in preparation for cleaning.

    Folds clothing and linen and distributes to proper supply areas and rooms.

    Receives, sorts, and distributes clothing items received through donations.

    Disposes of donated clothing that is unable to be used.

    Assists in loading and unloading of the linen truck.

    Identifies patient clothing needs and provides such from donation supply rooms.

    Communicates with family members concerning patients.

    Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of work areas.

    Responds to emergency cleaning needs for the purpose of preventing safety and health hazards.

    Operates washing machines, ensuring appropriate cleaning agents, temperature, and laundry cycles are used.

    Keeps laundry department and equipment clean and dust free.  Reports any malfunctions or breakdowns in facility areas and equipment.

    Stocks linen closets.

    Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    High school diploma or GED required.

    Experience:

    Previous laundry/linen care experience preferred.
