General Statement of Job
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, this position coordinates all technical and administrative responsibilities of the Pharmacy Department. The employee performs technical duties, as well as supervises the Pharmacy Technicians and ensures that proper staffing levels are maintained for efficient hospital pharmacy services.
Ensures that the Pharmacy is sufficiently staffed at all times within the FTE and cost standards assigned, as well as within the department’s annual budget.
Prepares departmental work schedules and approves payroll timecards in Kronos.
Supervises Pharmacy Technicians. Communicates and enforces the hospital’s and department’s policies and procedures, providing counseling to staff with appropriate documentation as needed to recognize and reward good performance and to identify and monitor areas needing improvement.
Performs Pharmacy Technician duties as needed.
Oversees and coordinates Pharmacy Technician development, orientation, training, and education.
Maintains Pharmacy communication among personnel and customers.
Communicates regularly with the Pharmacy Technicians to ensure hospital and departmental updates are provided in a timely manner.
Maintains the operation and capital budget for the Pharmacy Department.
Prepares and processes purchase orders for the Pharmacy Department.
Assists the Pharmacist with coordinating the supply and inventory system; including ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.
Maintains the NDC file in pharmacy system and audits for 340b compliance.
Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date. Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications, and oversees that they are removed from the facility or disposed of through approved protocols.
Prepares end of the month financial and statistical reports for the Pharmacy Department.
Reviews and submits additions, deletions and changes to the charge master, including APC updates.
Performs quality assurance documentation audits.
Monitors the controlled substance discrepancy reports for quick and accurate resolution.
Acts as the Pyxis System Manager and coordinator of CII Safe reporting. Maintains the Medication Dispensing Machines to ensure efficient inventory levels and stocking patterns.
Reviews and implements changes to ensure policy and procedure compliance with USP 797 guidelines.
Monitors compounding and testing documentation for compliance with implementing the USP 797 guidelines.
Monitors temperature logs of the medication refrigerators, freezers, and warmers for appropriate range. When out of range the unit is adjusted and the Pharmacist is notified immediately to evaluate the integrity of the drug supply of that unit.
Conducts and documents unit inspections of all areas storing medications on a monthly basis.
Maintains and updates all departmental records required by State and Federal law.
Maintains logs, records and other required documentation accurately. Files documentation in appropriate locations.
Assists the Director of Pharmacy in the development and revision of policies and procedures and participates in the departmental goal planning and quality improvement activities.
Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Minimum of two (2) years experience as a hospital pharmacy technician required. One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred.
State of Florida as a Pharmacy Technician license required.
