    General Statement of Job

    Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide assistance in planning, organizing, and implementing a physical and rehabilitative therapy program under the supervision of a Physical Therapist and as directed by a physician. Employees in this position instruct patients in a variety of activities including therapeutic exercise, pain management, and functional rehabilitation.


    Essential Functions:

    Administers therapeutic treatment to patients according to physician’s and/or Physical Therapist’s established management care plans.

    Administers therapeutic treatment, including therapeutic exercise, mobility training, balance and coordination, range of motion, pain management, whirlpools, and massage.

    Assesses patient progress, including progress subsequent to treatment, assistive devices, adaptive equipment needs, splinting and positioning needs, mobility, and seating system.

    Maintains documentation and files concerning activities conducted (e.g., charting, patient progress, treatment logs, and monthly statistics).

    Communicates with appropriate District personnel concerning patient progress.

    Provides instruction to nursing personnel in patient management and related persons involved in patient management/care, including patient families.

    Provides supervision to Occupational/Physical Therapy aides, students, and volunteer persons.

    Participates in department maintenance of equipment, cleanliness, order, and supply inventory.

    Attends various seminars, workshops, in-service training programs, department meetings, and rehabilitation conferences to maintain current knowledge of trends and developments both in the field and in relation to patient rehabilitation plans.

    Ensures safety of patients during administering of all rehabilitative and therapeutic procedures.

    Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.



    Associate’s degree from an accredited program with State certification as a Physical Therapy Assistant and the ability to acquire required continuing education for maintaining certification required.


    Two (2) to four (4) years practical experience in the field required.


    Heartsaver First Aid


    State of Florida licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant required.
