This position provides administration, design, planning and implementation of core server systems in a Windows environment. This individual must have in-depth experience in administration of physical/virtualized/clustered servers, Active Directory, domain controllers, MS Exchange, Citrix, NetApp Storage, and disaster recovery. Extensive knowledge of desktop management, server consolidation, VMWare, SAN (storage management), appliance management are all critical components of this position. This employee works collaboratively and provides a high level project/troubleshooting oversight.
Provides architectural, design and configuration of a highly available and recoverable server infrastructure throughout the District.
Designs, plans, tests and implements any enhancements to the MS operational environment. Understands and administers the VMware environment and Storage Area Network environments (SAN). Reviews proactive network support for any upgrades, replacements or enhancements to the MS server and storage environments.
Ensures corporate technology standards and procedures are adhered to. Participates and conforms to corporate IT procedures and policies. Recommends enhancements to maintain and develop a progressive IT infrastructure.
Stays current on all system technology opportunities for the District to utilize capital and expense budgets effectively. Makes appropriate recommendations to allocate funding properly.
Understands and implements appropriate security measures at the system administration level to maintain security protocols. Works with the IT Director to ensure proper policies and departmental procedures are documented and followed.
Provides appropriate documentation for backup purposes to prevent ‘key man’ dependencies throughout the District. Provides appropriate training, documentation and access for the MS Administrator to back up this position.
Manages access to system administration functions of server, SAN and VMware environments.
Contributes to the organization’s goals and objectives as reviewed with management in weekly status meetings. Provides bi-weekly status reports to management.
Utilizes appropriate network tools and vendor relationships to properly diagnose problems and resolutions. Provides a key leadership role in the organization’s IT Business Recovery design, plan and implementation. Maintains restorable backups of all MS Servers. Ensures server-based security.
Creates and maintains customer accounts for access to Microsoft Servers, applications and related software.
Assists with the integrity of Help Desk functions, provides second level technical support with end user/customer support calls. Recommends enhancements to the Help Desk processes and procedures. Provides mentoring for the Help Desk staff as assigned by management.
Assists in the development of annual budget for enterprise systems.
Maintains and enhances knowledge of information system topics and procedures through research, reading, seminars and hands-on training.
Assists customer base with usage of computer hardware and software.
Communicates and cooperates with fellow employees to share and enhance knowledge base while improving computer business tools.
Evaluates new software for customer base and for systems management.
Assists with asset management and the monitoring of software distribution against legal licensing agreements. Maintains network licenses and provides proper requests to upgrade, renew or replace software appropriately.
Maintains Windows server(s) security and backup logs.
Assists with hardware and software rollouts on workstations and servers. Provides IT On-Call support as required. Travels between work sites as necessary.
Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Applied Sciences required. Equivalent combination of experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.
Five (5) years technical experience with design, configuration, implementation and maintenance of Windows servers and workstations. Strong Experience with Windows 2003/2008/2012 Server environments, high availability clusters and networking. 4+ years experience working with VMware, Active Directory, Exchange Server environments, and Citrix VDI (XenApp, XenDesktop).
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Certification required or acquired within one year of hire. VMware Certified Professional 5 – Data Center Virtualization (VCP5-DCV) preferred. NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA) preferred.
Valid Florida Driver’s License.
